Beer and Flies Burst Onto The World Stage.
After years riding the Seven Seas aboard their pirate vessel the Beer and Flies Band have re-emerged from the wastelands of the empty waves to reshape the music industry; redefining what it means to create sounds and lyrics in the 21st Century.
Having retired from my newspaper job in Vera Cruz, where I had first met the band, I had travelled to Thailand to cover their gig; but by the time I arrived in Bangkok the band had already set sail for Australia. All that I could gather were fragments of the events that took place in Bangkok over the last few days from some unhelpful locals and later, a mere glimpse into the bandâs future itinerary as I spoke to the Captain over a crackly satellite phone he had on board the ship. Â

With growing interest in their exploits, bizarre compositional techniques and all round charisma, the crowds flocked to wait outside of sold out concerts. Unconfirmed rumours were already spreading that as people queued around the block to try to bribe the door staff in order to gain entry to an exclusive show at a supposedly secret venue in Bangkok, the band slipped by unnoticed in a convoy of Rickshaws, their instruments strapped to the roofs of the rickety vehicles. Early indications are that the gig was a huge success with the Bangkok Morning Star reporting that âdespite minor riots, resulting in the death of several fans and a security guard, the long awaited event was mostly peacefulâ. Â

The Beer and Flies slipped out the back door of the concert hall and returned to rest up in their hotel before they set out in the pirate ship which was docked in the Khlong Toei Port, nestled in amongst the huge tankers and cargo ships.
The ethereal Mad Myx, the shipâs doctor, insisted on visiting the famous Reclining Buddha before they left, looking for some inspiration for a new concoction he had been working on for some time. The band arrived at lunchtime and after maneuvering through the crowds of tourists the impressive statue was before them.Â
I could just imagine the band walking through the teeming streets having met the relaxing Buddha, past the piles of fried insects and rats, with no time to stop for lunch, heading back to their sea borne refuge to prepare for the trip to the Gold Coast of Australia.
I had made arrangements to conduct interviews with the band members in order to begin unearthing the mysterious workings of the group of pirate musical legends in the making. As I sat in the Khao San Road sipping a beer, the centre of the backpackers world in Bangkok, watching the chaotic night unfold in the streets, I was remembering my first meeting with the band. Â
Already, it seemed like a lifetime ago, when we met on their pirate ship in the Caribbean; me awkwardly climbing aboard the ship under the careful stare of the shipâs gunner, who incidentally, had a mounted 50 calibre machine gun trained on me.  Â

Update on Beer and Flies - The South China Sea and World Peace.
The exact whereabouts of the Beer and Flies is currently unknown although recently hacked US military radar signals that were posted onto Wikileaks appear to show that the pirate vessel is straying dangerously close to military installments in the South China Sea. Inside sources at MI5 have reassured us that British and American diplomats are doing everything they can to prevent any escalations in the tense region and urge people to remain calm. Â
Â
Emergency Update : 4 minutes ago, the alternative media was ablaze with calls to immediately build backyard nuclear shelters – 50% off with free shipping since the world might be coming to an end – on account of an unknown situation in the South China Sea. Â
Â
At this point in time we can only hope that the Beer and Flies pirate vessel is not involved. Â
Â
Beer and Flies are due to appear on the Gold Coast of Australia. Will they arrive? Will the world end? Stay tuned for more updates.Â
